FSC® Forest Certification
Paper Procurement Policy
We actively use FSC-certified paper. Utmost efforts are undertaken to ensure that certified products do not use the following wood.
- Illegally harvested wood
- Wood harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights
- Wood harvested in forests where high conservation values are threatened by management activities
- Wood harvested from forests that are being converted to non-plantation or non-forest uses
- Wood harvested from forests where genetically modified trees are planted
Initiatives for the FSC® Forest Certification System
We obtained the FSC Chain of Custody (COC) Certification under the FSC Forest Certification System administered by the UK Soil Association's Woodmark on May 27, 2005 in recognition of our response to customer needs and our objective to further advance environmental conservation initiatives.
The FSC Forest Certification System is a system that inspects and certifies the appropriate management of forests in light of the standards created by independent third-party organizations. The FSC COC Certification is a mechanism to certify that product management has been undertaken in such a way that FSC certified paper can be demonstrated to have been produced from forests accredited with Forest Management Certification (FM Certification).
The area of FSC certified forest exceeds approximately 140 million hectares worldwide (as of April 1, 2011), extending mainly across Europe, North America and Central and South America. In Japan, 33 forests have been certified (as of April 1, 2011) and, going forward, the certification system is expected to expand into countries in Asia other than Japan.
To be accredited with the FSC Forest Certification, we are making efforts through our sales activities to disseminate forest-certified products that are environmentally-conscious. Based on the sum of management systems acquired on a company-wide basis, we aim to contribute to society as a company by continuing to learn and grow under the spirit of "customer satisfaction, global environmental conservation and fulfillment of our social responsibility."
